Writing*Each day we spend time in "Writer's Workshop". We learn what writers do and then we practice by having independent writing time. Mrs. LeFebre confers with us on our writing strategies one on one or in small groups. |
Word Work*New words are introduced on Mondays and practiced each day. Click on the Homework tab for this week's word work patterns.
*Please encourage your child to practice writing the words each day (go to the "homework" tab) for this week's words. Thank you for practicing them in lowercase letters and being extra careful with reversals (b,d,p,q) as these can make the wrong word! *Click on the Educational Websites tab above and go to Spelling City for a fun way to practice online! |
Math*This will be our school's 6th year using the Math Expressions Math Curriculum.
*Parent Notes from our math book will be sent home at the start of each new unit to introduce you to the concepts we are working on. *Math Homework will be sent home most Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please remind your child to do both sides and write his/her name at the top. Return it to school in the home folder the following day. Thank you! |
Other*Handwriting-
A big change for first graders is learning to write with lowercase letters. We are learning to save the capitals for "special" times like the first letter in a sentence, the first letter in a name, a proper noun, and when "i" stands alone as a word. Please encourage your child to write his/her name with one capital and the rest lowercase. *Have your child demonstrate for you how to properly hold a pencil. *First Grade Science and Social Studies themes and topics will be incorporated into our read alouds, discussions and writing assignments. |
